This show by Krzysztof Pastor is the fruit of cooperation of the Polish National Ballet with Het Nationale Ballet in Amsterdam. It premiered there in 2014, and this season it will be performed by our company. Shakespeare’s ambiguous masterpiece is for Pastor only a source of inspiration. The choreographer uses themes and characters from the play, but he focuses mainly on presenting the magic hidden in the drama. ‘It has no unequivocal ending, or conclusion,’ he believes. ‘Perhaps Shakespeare deliberately left a lot for us to interpret for ourselves. In this sense the play is very contemporary, it does not limit the audience to passive participation – it requires involvement, it is an intellectual challenge.’ The choreographer invited the Dutch dramaturg Willem Bruls and the Iranian artists Shirin Neshat and Shoja Azari, considered to be the greatest video artists of our time, to search with him for hidden meanings in the Bard’s Tempest. This is perhaps the most mysterious of our choreographer’s productions.
